IMG_4416-2.jpgSixteen-year-old Aza never intended to pursue the mystery of fugitive billionaire Russell Picket, but there’s a hundred-thousand-dollar reward at stake and her Best and Most Fearless Friend, Daisy, is eager to investigate. So together, they navigate the short distance and broad divides that separate them from Russell Picket’s son, Davis.

Aza is trying. She is trying to be a good daughter, a good friend, a good student, and maybe even a good detective, while also living within the ever-tightening spiral of her own thoughts.

In his long-awaited return, John Green, the acclaimed award-winning author of Looking for Alaska and the Fault in Our Stars, shares Aza’s story with shattering, unflinching clarity in this brilliant novel of love, resilience, and the power of a life-long friendship.

IMG_5432I had heard a lot about John Green’s novels, so I wanted to give one of his books a try. I ordered this one-off of Amazon and started reading! I heard a lot of mixed reviews about this book, some people saying they loved it, and others saying they didn’t like it at all.

IMG_4422-2.jpgI loved the writing style of this novel. Green has a very detailed and unique style, and it makes his work enjoyable to read and gives an interesting perspective. It’s almost like poetry.

I loved Aza’s character. She was so complex and dynamic. Her struggles teach the reader that you can go through hard times in your life, and still everything will be okay. As sad as the ending was (I won’t go into detail, as this is supposed to be a spoiler free review) I think it left a manful impact.

And lastly, the plot was well executed. There were tons of twists and turns!

There are so many admirable things about this novel. I know it got mixed reviews, and some didn’t like it as much as others, but I loved it!

IMG_4419-2.jpgThere isn’t much critique I could give this novel, but the pacing was very slow. In fact, the book moved so slow that I almost DNFed it! It wasn’t until the middle of the book where I felt the plot was starting to come together and where it was actually interesting to read.

IMG_4421-2As slow as this book was in the beginning, I still recommend it! The story itself is so beautiful, the characters are so three-dimensional, and the writing style phenomenal!

After I read it, I found so much meaning to the story and reflected about it and how it related to my own life. It is indeed a slow starter, but the middle and ending will not disappoint you!
