I was a huge fan of this series and read the all of the books when I was in the third grade, so I thought that at least the first one deserved a re-read. I was excited to for a re-read, and I wasn’t disappointed!
The book had a mysterious vibe that couldn’t be topped. The writing style was excellent, and the author is great at getting the reader hooked. I also enjoyed solving riddles and deciphering codes alongside Cass and Max-Ernest. It kept me engaged in the story and plot. (Which were also very good)
The villains were excellent! Dr. L and Ms. Mavius *sorry I don’t know how to spell her name* were perfect antagonists. Plus, Dr. L’s back story was executed perfectly. Come to think of it, there wasn’t a single character that I didn’t like/didn’t fit well into the story.
Bosch had a signature dark humor that spiced things up, similar to that of Trenton Lee Stewart and Lemony Snicket. He also made useful side notations a which added to the dynamics of his writing style to evaluate on the unique things that were happening in the story, which came in handy.
The only problem I had with this story was how the ending was a little abrupt. It didn’t seem to fully wrap up the story the way I was expecting.*
*This is in a series, which also happens to be very secret, so it may purposely leave on a cliffhanger
All in all, The Name of This Book is Secret is a must read, especially for anyone who is into mystery books. There was only one minor problem, but it was easily outruled by all of the redeemable qualities which the book possesses. I can assure you that you won’t be disappointed if you pick this book up.
